DETAILS:
This year, The San Diego Foundation pioneered a new grant program, the Creative Catalyst: Individual Artist Fellowship Program (CCP). These grants provide opportunities for local professional artists to create new work that would otherwise likely not be feasible for them. Each artist is paired with a nonprofit arts organization to provide institutional support. A total of 15 individual artists received the inaugural CCP award. Through this program, Mo`olelo has had the pleasure of working with Poet Manuel Paul Lopez, aka Paul.
Paul has been writing a book-length manuscript entitled The Yearning Feed. This manuscript consists of poems and stories exploring themes related to the US/Mexico border region.

If you were a nanny goat, I’d watch you from afar.
Maybe from behind a hay bale, or a firm stack
of sandbags
like the ones we used to look for in old war movies.
Nonetheless, my safety would come first.
With binoculars, I’d find your lovely nanny goat lips
and daydream about long, interminable conversations with you.
About the nature of things, nanny goat things
of grass
and the yearning matter that feeds it.
Together we’d fertilize the air with our secrets,
then watch scissors grow.
